07 Apr The Lodge at Woodloch
If you’re looking for a truly indulgent resort experience and spa getaway, head for the Poconos!
I spent a recent weekend at The Lodge at Woodloch and “luxurious” is the only word that encapsulates my time there.
Nestled in a small forested area surrounded by thick trees and a beautiful, crystalline lake, the property is beautifully appointed and wrapped in the sounds of rustling trees, frogs, birds and all other manner of ambient nature noise.
From the moment you arrive the valets are there to greet you and escort you into reception, taking care of every detail.
The lodge accommodates only 100 guests at capacity so the stellar staff can provide very personal attention and they demonstrate a tremendous sense of hospitality at all times.
In addition to a broad range of spa services, the lodge offers a varied schedule of classes, ranging from guided exercise and yoga to jewelry-making; drawing classes; cooking demonstrations and proper care of bed linens. One intriguing session to highlight is their Forest Bathing—not what one might think—but an escorted walk through a forest led by a Zen-trained guide who teaches appreciation of one’s senses and our relation/connection to nature. It was an inspired up along the way—a surprisingly good concoction, clean and energizing.
The other fun activity was the coffee and s’mores house where you can drop by at any time for s’mores over a continuously burning camp fire, take part in some bird watching or try your hand at archery. You can also pick up a trail bike and scope out the property if you’re feeling especially adventurous.
The restaurant features elevated spa cuisine with daily specials and a variety of dishes to appeal to all tastes. Live musicians perform both during and after dinner in the lounge near the host station.
An indoor pool has two heated areas with waterfalls (perfect for a spontaneous massage) which were great for total relaxation. Afterwards, you can retire to the Whisper Room, a quiet space with chaises longues looking out over the woods where you can meditate, read or enjoy a cup of detoxing Naturopathica tea.
This is a place to completely decompress and you can fashion your own unique involvement, participating as much or as little as you like. You can enjoy a full schedule of activities or spend the time resting, contemplating and reflecting. Nothing is rushed here and the guest’s desire is all important.
Luxury personified.
