We All Scream for Ice Cream!

While summer has passed, the desire for ice cream and all concoctions containing said item never really passes, no matter the time of year.

Hence, a new ice cream parlor in lower Manhattan deserves attention. Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream, located on Rivington Street, is a true oasis of ice-creaminess (if that’s even a term).

I stopped by recently on a break between appointments before attending a show – true  confession – I wanted ice cream for dinner – and this place hit the spot! The staff is super friendly and welcoming and the menu has a staggering list of flavor options. Not only are the classics available but also a lot of interesting, “grown up” choices, such as burnt honey bourbon vanilla, durian banana, Vietnamese coffee and blueberry milk chocolate. Scoops can be served on cones, in dishes or blended into milkshakes.

In addition, they offer a range of fruity sorbets, ice cream cakes, pies and pastries. And for those that just can’t get enough, there is a loyalty card: 10 punches gets you one free dip.

Burnt honey bourbon vanilla in milkshake form–irresistible!

It’s a real neighborhood place and when I visited the vibe was chill (no pun intended) with visitors hanging out and sitting in the little built in nooks or the windows whiling away the time and chatting over what is definitely one of man’s best inventions.

With Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream, summer really never has to end!

Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 8am to 11pm and Friday through Saturday, 8am to 12am.
